Band [Schlesener]

This week in Band…White Band is playing out of their books. We set a daily goal at the start of every class and then we try to reach that goal by the end of class. The key to reaching our goal every day is practicing at home. Students should be practicing 20 minutes a day. If they play an instrument that is too big for the bus, please contact me so we can arrange for a home instrument. Playing tests start on Tuesday August 28th . Their playing test scores will be averaged and they will be placed in chairs according to those numbers. They have a list of all the test numbers in their band binders. Please encourage them to practice at home!

Blue Band is playing out of their books. We set a daily goal at the start of every class and then we try to reach that goal by the end of class. They key to reaching our goal every day is practicing at home. Students should be practicing 20 minutes a day. If they play an instrument that is too big for the bus, please contact me so we can arrange for a home instrument. Playing tests start on Tuesday August 28th . Please encourage them to practice at home!

Red Bands are working out of their music theory books. We try and do 2 pages a day and anything they don’t complete in class should be done at home. We will need instruments and accessories by August 28th. Clarinets, Saxes, Bass Clarinets will need reeds, strength 2.5 and a swab to clean the instrument out, I recommend the silk ones because they last forever and don’t leave fuzzies in the instruments. Trumpets, baritones, and tubas will need valve oil, and trombones will need slide oil.

IMPORTANT: if your percussion students does not have a percussion kit that includes bells and a snare drum, they will need to get them. The expectation for my percussion students is that they are proficient on both bells and snare and our testing covers both. I have given several of them passes to practice in the morning, please encourage them to take advantage of that extra practice time.

Any 7th and 8th graders who are interested in pep band need to see me so I can put them on a list. If they do not need a strategy course they may be selected for pep band.

There will be a sub in my class August 23, 24, and 27 so please remind your students that their best behavior is expected! If you have any questions, please contact me at
