World Geography

Language Arts:
Students began reading The Giver. Students are gathering evidence to evaluate the community Jonas lives in.

· Tuesday-Read chapters 3 & 4 aloud in class. Complete signposts notes.
· Wednesday-Finish chapters 3 & 4 aloud in class. Complete signposts notes. Review claim writing.
· Thursday-Read chapters 5 & 6 aloud in class. Complete signposts notes.
· Friday- Read chapters 5 & 6 aloud in class. Review elaboration.
Foundational Language Arts:
Continue analyzing poetry for character and point of view, working on basic skills of mechanics usage grammar, main idea, context clues and finding evidence and working on vowel teams for phonics.

Math Reminders:
-Morning Math Sessions are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Students have an orange pass that will allow them to come up at 7:25.
-It is important for students to practice their newly learned math skills by completing the homework assignments. When they spend time thinking about these concepts, it boosts their learning! The answer keys are posted in Schoology, so students may check their work.
*Students will have two attempts to complete Skill Checks. The Skill Checks come directly from homework assignments.
*Skill Checks 1.1 and 1.2 are due Wed., Jan. 17 at 7:50 a.m.
Science:
Students began working on Unit 2 Forces and Motion this week.

ADDITIONAL COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Beginning a few weeks into the school year, students will be placed into a Monday – Thursday Academic Strategies class based on their academic needs. Students will receive extra practice in math, reading or writing, or be challenged through extension classes. These placements are based on testing done at the beginning of the year, as well as studnet performance from the previous year. You will receive more information about these placements during October conferences.
